I depends on the wind direction. Middle beach gets a decent shorebreak after a good wind, makes it pretty hard to fish. I've found it fishes best the last few hours before dark, and the usual tide changes. It's not a long walk if you park at the end of Cliff St. you just walk down the steps. My folks live on Cliff St., so understandably it's my favorite spot, as I've fished it for ever...!

My favorite night spot is main beach straight down from the oval, there's a big hole there and holds a lot of different species. The oval usually has a floodlight turned toward the beach over Xmas, so it's easy fishing at night.

Short Point isn't all that reliable, good whiting are caught there as well as Salmon and Tailor, but not regularly.

Excellent thread, I'm heading up there after New Year so this is very handy. We'll have my stepfathers tinny as well which will open up even more options. Any tips on where to head in a small tinny?

Thats unreal, thanks :). That opens up a whole new set of options for me.. Based on what you've told me i think i might swap the time i spend at Merimbula Wharf with Tathra Wharf instead and then head to the Tathra Surf ...

Thanks! Az.
your welcome mate.
sorry if my posts were long winded like matt mentioned -lol -but they are based on results from hardyards too . i thought why not share them;)

theyr r nice alternate (surf) spots when trying to get away from crowds.

In my experience eden was pumpin in the 80s 90s. then the yakkas etc got small. next was merimbula which is always great to stay. spent years there ,
until we found Tathra wharf.
that deep water is very rich
. youll notice how much bigger the yakkas n slimies are. big black eyes;)

Tathra ;)
This is the railing and the corner spot for big Luderick and squid.

I always get free Luderick bait which is fresh sea weed scraped off the rocks at lowtide on ANY beach around merimbula. fill a big plastic bottle with beach water and chuck all the green weed inside to keep fresh .

long shank hook under 1.5m leader under pencil float cast off the corner spot. iv never failed to catch them there;)

deep water allows occasional whale visits;)
and the Fish n Chip shop at the wharf is tasty with a few coldies;) check out the old school shark catch photos in the cafe!
