It's worth getting the pulley beads off Busted fishing. I resisted for a long time but they've made a considerable difference. Plus they are 10 for $9 or somethign.

I went down a local beach last weekend and practised a number of times.. ended up snapping the mono leading a couple of times.. came back checked up internet and learned something more about shock leader has to be much stronger than the main line.. i was using same size (15lb mono + 15lb braid) apparently the mono lead cannot cope with that burst force during the casting. I'll probably replace it with something 30lb+ and 2xlength of rod + 6 cranks of reel in length (which learned from internet as well, big thanks to Google!) and keep on practice!

As per my previous post on page 1 10lb per oz. So 30lb should do.

I like to have the braid to leader knot off just off the reel.

Haha just realised they add a lead ball to the clip. Mine works now!

If you guys are interested in meeting up for a fish/cast I will be happy to come down in a few weeks , going to Adelaide for the ASF Australian Championships which is being held on Sunday and Monday . Will be back in Melbourne on Wednesday morning.
And yes casting with Pillies etc is no different , just have to use the correct rigs and bait silk so that the pillie doesn't explode off the hooks.

When fishing the type of rig being used will have an impact on distance but with the right technique you can always get the most from your gear :water:

I might take you up on that, I haven't fished off a beach in months since getting the yak.

Casting a 3 oz sinker with bait attached decreases the distance. The addition of the bait, changes the aerodynamics and increases wind resistance thus distance decreases.

I would love to learn to surf cast, it's a pretty impressive skill. However I fish in pretty tidal areas of WPB, so I don't really cast much as I'm mostly using 16oz sinkers and set my spread with the current not the cast.
