Nice going Jim

I just use a pair of clip on thongs and stand/walk in the water as I cast and retrieve(I don't feel the cold... until I'm trudging back to the car then I feel these cold blocks of ice on the bottom of my legs).
My kids gave me some waders in June and I tried them once which worked really well (I put a rubber insole in the boots and an extra thick pair of socks and then wore track pants underneath to stop the rubber inside peeling the hair off my legs :o_0: )
I know you super tough MEN out there would NEVER ever wear waders (I never did either) but man in the middle of winter Sooo much more comfy.
I did the whole Gunners to the end and back in them no dramas (and yes I did catch a Sambo while wearing them)

Problem with some waders is if you get knocked over by a big wave they can fill up quick and make it really hard to make it back to safety. Not likely to happen but there are probably a few people here who have some stories of people getting washed in at Gunna so it pays to be careful. Some of the water marks I've seen high up on the dunes down have been nothing short of :o_0:

Reading through all the threads over the last few months decided me on layering up top and still going with shorts, even in winter. I threw a pair of thermal shorts under that (skins-esque things), and had the benefit of many years of hiking/ski touring through the high country to have decent layering gear for top half (thermal, fleece, shell), and the upshot is I didn't feel the cold.

Need to solve the shoe question though. Wore volleys, and they filled with SO much sand...

I wear the rock hopper version of these

and recommend them to everyone. Warm and grippy if you find yourself off the sand and on a bit of rock for whatever reason.

I'm guessing rock hopper version means upgraded sole, or spikes of some kind?

The soul is solid with little metal spikes all through it, also zippers so you can taket hem on and off without rupturing a disc in your back.

As Burks said..top part of body nice and warm with appropriate clothing and beanie. It's the feet that are the problem in winter. At one stage i couldn't move my toes let alone feel them. They were almost frozen stiff. Once the sun came up it was much better. It's the first hour after first light that is the problem for me...
