I bought Basa from Coles once, and it had no flavour at all. I understand that protein is important to people in that part of the world but I am still surprised that reputable supermarkets in Australia are allowed to sell something like that here.

I also had seen the video on Basa and no thanks but it is probably better than many things that the supermarkets sell as food
when it comes to fish I don't tend to buy it as I normally catch enough normally fishing every week end

now for most of the fish I catch Yakkas , Aussie Salmon and silver trevs are better as bait but do pickle well

I've tried Wrasse and think they maybe better shark bait - larger Snapper aren't that flash ether - almost any fresh water species apart from Redfin again aren't on my list as great eating

there are others that I don't rate that well for eating but getting a good supply of fresh Gummies - Whiting and flat head normally from what I remember from back when we were aloud to fish - maybe even the sh!t f!sh might taste ok now

Anchovies / tinned cheap ass tuna.

Anything that's super fishy and smells like catfood.

I once tried dogfish back in Ireland, they’re sort of look like draughtboard sharks and they taste awful, sort of an ammonia taste. Also tried carp a few times and it tastes strange and the texture is soft and unpleasant, and snapper over 4-5kg aren’t very nice unless you put some effort into them. I’m interested to hear if anyone has tried sergeant baker, I’ve heard on fishing shows that they don’t taste great but I don’t see why.

I tried sergeant baker thinking it was some sort of delicious gurnard looking thing. It didn’t taste awful but the texture wasn’t great and it was full of bones.

And anyone who has had the symptoms of what this fish can cause in some people will agree with me. Butter smooth going in, butter smooth coming back out again if you know what i mean.

I tried Wirra cod once. They apparently sell well in the fish market. A bit like chewing soft fish flavoured rubber. No idea why the Asians love them along with parrot fish.
