I haven't tried it but I would think the flesh would be ruined plus looks really messy.

It looks pretty brutal to me. Not sure id want my pinkies touched by that...
Dunno if it makes a difference to fish but i never touch them with fresh water. I always take a 20lt bucket of saltwater home to rinse them in after cleaning in my backyard.

Pop and my oldman always cleaned fish the same way...
