Great session! Unidentified fish.
Had a wading session tonight after a long day on the kayak. I did pretty well, missed a flathead but ended up with 4 scallops, 1 garfish, 1 flounder, some mussels and then this one fish that I am yet to identify, it was swimming past me and I thought it was a big garfish but after spearing it I realised it was different. Given that it had been speared I thought it would be useless letting it go, so I stabbed it in the head to kill it. Well, obviously it didn’t get the message because it continued spinning like an eel for at least another hour after capture, it’s also got a mouth for sucking like a carp but it has funny little teeth. I would really appreciate someone letting me know what this is, it’s driving me up the wall not knowing.

Great session! You can't beat fresh scallops and flounder!
I think that unidentified fish is a Short Head Worm Eel, the eyes looks closer to this species than the short finned or long finned.

Funny enough I actually caught a short head worm eel about 3 months ago, I can definitely see a similarity in the head but this fish has a tail, and scales.

Nice catch mate.
I’ve caught plenty of those shorthead worm eel things it’s not one of them because of the tail at the end like you said... hmmmmm

Yeah seeing the tail better now it's more of a fish than eel.

Hmmm, maybe but sharks don’t have a tail fin like this. And it has small scales.
