shark ID

Post by 4liters » Sat Jul 28, 2018 4:54 pm

I caught a heap of these little guys in 55m off Torquay today. At first I thought they were baby gummies but as I was unhooking them it was clear they were a different species. They had a sharp spine in front of their dorsal fins like a PJ, bigger eyes than a gummy and they small but fairly sharp teeth.

Anyone know what they are? I also caught a couple of 50cm schoolies.

It's a spur dog. Spikey Dogfish, Squalus megalops.
