Fish ID and edibility

Post by Davidsch1 » Sat Feb 27, 2016 8:47 am

I want to start up a thread which lists all known saltwater fish in Victoria based on taste/edibility, but I want to include a link/pic of each fish so people can recognize or ID it. What do they look like? Which ones are poisonous? Which ones taste bad? Which ones taste good? Which ones are risky to eat? etc...

(For example, unless your Japanese trained don't eat pufferfish, as it will kill you. Google fugu)

As much input as possible would be good, as I would love to start up a list of all saltwater fish in at least Victorian saltwater which are rated from excellent eating, to good, to average, to poor, to poisonous/inedible. It will be a learning experience for many, including myself on what is edible/inedible, and what they taste like. And more so, hopefully it will help keen fishermen who pull up that unknown mystery fish determine what it is that they caught!! Feel free to even rate your favourite fish such as your snapper, salmon, etc...if you have good quality pics. I know there will be some discrepancies regarding rating of edibility/taste, but I want to keep it friendly here, so if any concerns, I am happy to listen to everyone's opinion! :) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ RULES: 1. Please rate your fish taste/edibility on a scale of 0 - 10, as below:
10 - Excellent/first class
9 - Incredibly Good
8 - Amazing
7 - Really good
6 - Good
5 - Above average
4 - Average
3 - Poor
2 - Bad
1 - Awful
0 - Poisonous/inedible

2. Include a good quality pic (no blurry/poor quality pics please) if you have one of that fish which will make it easy for people to ID the fish themselves ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I will start a list below and update as everyone inputs!
