Hi Guys

Going to head out from Hastings this evening for the first time as the weather is looking tops and there is a high tide later in the day when we will be going out.

This is going to be our first trip out there and I am hoping to pick up some whiting and potentially a gummy for my mum's partner who is down from Italy.

Looking for some tips on areas that are currently firing for whiting (looks like just about every where from reports on FB) and some go to areas for Gummys.

Obviously with WP being what it is we don't want to get ourselves into trouble (yet) so looking for some areas that might suit first timers. I've got no issues navigating the boat and have a proper GPS with charts and depths.... but I'd prefer to do the "learning the area" without passengers.

Also, we are coming from the Eastern suburbs so happy to launch elsewhere if you think it might serve us better.

The ramps,

Tooridan, the channel is long, at low tide it is difficult to get back to the ramp.
Blind Bight, high tide only, local knowledge the best
Warneet, the channel isn't too bad, but narrow and at night you need to know it. Low tide it is not possible to launch or retrieve your boat.
Hastings, good launching, channel well mark. can be hard on a low low tide
Stony Point, has the shortest channel, again low low is not the best, but waiting an hour or 30 mins makes a big difference.

Launch Hastings. Head across to the middle spit. 2-8m of water for Whiting. No fish in 15 minutes move 100m and repeat until you find fish. Gummies, find some good ground anywhere between bouys 27 and 29. As tide slows throw out some pippies for the big Whiting. Both areas are currently producing fish

How did you end up going?

Hey mate, launched at Hastings and went pretty much straight out to middle spit. Started at about the 8m line and hooked up one whiting about 42cm straight away. Thought we were on for a banging session.... but other than a few bites and missed fished we had no more luck. Moved 4-5 times from 2m-8m but only flatheads, toadfish and banjo's!

Still, happy to catch my first whiting!
