Showing your age FC. :icon_lolz: Got a pump? I'll do it for ya. Years ago a mate used to pump for them from the banks off the patto river.Fish-cador wrote:answer my PM. Re: where can I buy tube worms in Melbourne area?
Altona & surrounding area's once had a good colony of tube worms , but these days its nothing like it once was "over worked" by bait collecting anglers . There used to be a healthy population of Bass Yabbie's also , they are gone or very very few are left smh .
While its not easy to get tube worms , i mastered it in my late teens & early 20's "i was fitter & had a better back" its back breaking work & i learnt the technique of how to pump them to get the tube worms whole & unbroken . But lately i dont pump any @ Altona "Or anywhere else" , the very few surviving Colonies of tube worms , i hope will one day make a come back "but its unlikely" judging by the amount of ppl working the low tide sand banks .

Re: where can I buy tube worms in Melbourne area?
When I moved from Adelaide to Melbourne in the early 90's I didn't know anyone who used tubies and never saw them in a tackle shop which I was amazed.
Tubeworms were and probably still are the go to bait for Adelaide metro fishing, and they were pumped locally on the northern beaches and sold live rolled up in wet newspaper. We used to get a dozen worms or more for a few bucks, back then we thought this was pricey!
