Are these Pippies?

Post by CremeDeLaCreme » Sun Feb 24, 2013 10:39 am

I was walking the beach at Rosebud and found heaps of these in the sand.

They do have a little bit of meat inside them.

Are these actually Pippies or something else???

Are they any good for bait?

Obviously will be collected outside the intertidal zone.

They are pippies.. And there are PLENTY around rosebud area. As a kid a mate and i pulled in about 3kg of them, and got his grandma (italian) to cook them up! Delicious.

they are cockels, used to fish with a mate that lived down there.he never used them,i used them fishing in the same boat as him,he used pipi/squid cocktail,i used the local cockels as in your photo.he bagged out ,i got 3 fish only due to the cockle falling off and the whiting taking the squid strip.next trip used pipi/squid cocktail and bagged out.no more cockels for me.

know of a few people who use the squid/pipi combo.... really makes sense with the delicate pipi sometimes even falling off before it hits the water....
