Hey guys
What are some easy baits you can catch fresh for snapper LANDBASED.
I don't really know what good bait i can catch besides squid but i suck at jigging only ever caught 2 squid in my life.
Also any spots to catch this "bait".
Do gummy baits work for snapper too, e.g. trevally, salmon, pike/snook, etc.
Cheers guys

Mullet, plenty everywhere. Maribyrenong river, barwon heads river or the yarra. Baytrout fillet, plenty in barwonheads atm. Chicken breast fillet soaked in tuna oil, plenty at the super market. Or a bag of frozen pilchard from the servo is an easy option too. ;-) goodluck

Easiest bait I have found , , , , and comes with it's own little berley , , , , are Tommie (Australian Herring) Heads. I get them from a local Fishmonger, who processes/fillets their own fish. They cut the heads off and as they pull the head of, some of the guts come out stuck to the head , , , , Bait and Berley all in one :-D

Gar heads are ok too but not as good.

You have to get in the good books with them as the Tommie heads are a much sort after (no cost) bait for Snapper. When I get them and if there are heaps, I freeze them in sandwich bags for multiple trips.

Just bumping some threads rb, to keep some light to topics, and not have the repetitive questions asked but rather, bring the answers forward before questions are needed to be asked

Thinking ahead from the past I see. Back to the future's past... or the past's future... Ahhh my head hurts...

Squid heads always be my snapper bait. Caught some of my big landbased snappers on that. Squids are generally easy to catch and all year round without the need for burley etc.
Otherwise yes, just burley up on a nice calm day and get some whatever fish that come along. Mullet, tommie rough, gar,...
