Best Afterhours bait shop servo for Reds
I usually try to get fresh pillies from springy market or silver whiting from boxhill. salt my own.
last few trips to bayside ive unfortunately copped crap pillies from 3 shops. its my own fault for last minute midnight fishing urges.lol
so ive tried tje servo on north rd halfway between warrigal & nepean. they had other decent stuff like cured eel. sauries. but didnt try them.
the servo on cnr of nepean hwy-north rd. & the servo on beach rd near sandi both mushy limp pillies.
which servo in melbourne has the best brand boxed cali squid, & pillies?
would appreciate the tip!!
time to buy a vacseal & go nuts on bait prep.

Well, no one has Californian squid, unless you're paying over $24/kg.... And if Pillies are such an issue, grab the salted packs instead of iqf and the mush issue is gone.

No use to you but I recently bought 4kg of pilles from melton marine very good and had a good selection I have always found the servo closest to the boat ramp has great bait due to the high turn over the big caltex on the western highway on the way to altona the 7 11 just before crossing the princess highway on the way to werribee south and the shell on the left just before you get to the st helens ramp

Not after hours but the best pillies in melbourne come from VANCOUVER FISHERIES out of williamstown, handsdown!!! Im gutted(and so are they probably) they didn't get an exemption from the "PPB netting ban"! Used these pillies many times and outfished ppl next to me on piers too many times for it to be a coincidence...

Always been a 'gourmet' item in other countries ducky. The yanks laugh that we only want them for bait. But they decided on a whim to shutdown the fishery for most of the year and only recently opened it back up with a huge world wide backlog of orders and a massive price rise to boot.ducky wrote:Yet another bait that's gone gourmet cobby?
Shazz, if you get stuck with no bait and Vancouver shut pm me and I'll put you onto some. They're top Pillies, just on the small side and only end up in smaller retail packs in the servos/tackle shops
