Mincer
Mincer
Guys, looking at a mincer to blend up old baits/fish heads/frames etc for berley.
How do one of these go? Will i be there for hours mincing up the fish, as it looks like hard work (do the holes get clogged up).
Would like to know what others use to mince up their own berley.

Re: Mincer
Get a cheap blender from Kmart unless you want to build guns and cancel your gym membership.
1. Its easier
2. probably cheaper
3. easier to clean
4. holes will get clogged up with fish bones/cartilage
5. Its easier...

Re: Mincer
If your planning of churning old pilles, squid and mussels/pippies(shell less) then any blender will do. I'd avoid glass jugs and nutribullet themed blenders.

But wait....you could make a delicious pillie smoothie?seephil wrote: I'd avoid glass jugs and nutribullet themed blenders.
Have to agree tho, a nutribullet would turn it to liquid in seconds.
A mincer would be a pain, even a blender is overkill imo.
I use mallet.

Re: Mincer
Completely thaw out whatever it is you're mincing. Pillies go through like butter, squid can get caught up though. Anything that's hard like a pinky head will be a struggle to mince. Avoid shark at all costs, it just doesn't work. Mix a little trickle of water through to save your arm and make the mix spread out further and freeze better.
I spend a day every month or two mincing hundreds of kg of all sorts of frames and freezer burnt bait through an industrial mincer at work. It's surprisingly therapeutic work

If you need a large quantity of berley this video might give you some inspiration.

Re: Mincer
I have a larger version of that mincer and it's really good but it does take a long time to mince large quantities and is hard work. What do you guys recommend when mincing large quantities upwards of 20-30kg at a time? A motorised mincer would be great and I'm not a fan of using a mulcher.

Re: Mincer
I can confirm, that mincing up old fish guts is quite disgusting. Also, snapper heads will not go through said mincer
As an aside, if you drop off top coat buckets in the morning, most fishmongers will fill them up with fish frames and guts/offcuts for like 5 bucks a bucket, and you just pick them up that night. I used to do that a lot, except you get a lot of snapper heads which isnt ideal.
