I've heard of this a while back.. I'd say using local products is better anyway for our local economy and for our environment. In saying that, people have been using imported prawns for yonks now.. who knows really.

Re: warning over prawn use
I remember when i was running restaurants, we'd use vanamei prawns from vietnam and thailand. Up until there was a disease a few years ago. Havent used it ever since.
Think local, use local baits.

Re: warning over prawn use
With green local prawn as low as $12 a Kg here off the boats, I would think local prawn would be cheaper.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

I'm pretty sure the banana prawns you buy whole from the deli section are Australian. In any case they should be able to tell you where they're from if you ask.

Re: warning over prawn use
Good to know. I'd hate to think what would happen to my catch rate if I had to stop using them.poodoo wrote:Yup qld. I watched a doco once on how those little prawns from thailand get farmed.. made me sick.. couldn't believe how much chemical rubbish they put in the water
