Mullet Fishing Bait

Post by Christos » Wed Jan 06, 2016 2:03 pm

Hey,

Does anyone know of any places in the north west suburbs of Melbourne that is good for mullet fishing.
Used to really enjoy it when fishing on the South Coast of NSW.

Any help is great, Thanks

Don't thing the north west suburbs have any mullet grounds.
You can catch salties in the Maribyrnong river, down steam & around the racecourse.

Plenty of good spots for mullet in the NW suburbs, i do quite a bit of mullet fishing during jewfish season, the best spots for me in no particular order:

Under the bolte bridge ( Lorimer st side)
Pier 35
Just down from pier 35 opposite the stony creek reserve
stony creek reserve
The warmies
Ferguson street pier

Always use a heap of burley and i just use raw chicken as bait.

Good luck

During the winter months the Williamstown piers are popular for yellow eye mullet fishing using a long pole & float rig.

I like to use tiny hooks, like size 14 mosquito hooks, chicken sliver soaked in the same oil that i'm burleying with.

When i used to fish for mullet i remember using tiny hooks, ultra thin line and a pencil float. Have never fished with chicken to catch them however, i always remember making dough and using that. Will have to give the chicken a try and soak it in oil, Thanks Dougie.
Might head to stoney creek reserve on thursdayu arvo or saturday and try my luck.
