Kingfish grow exceptionally fast in their early years. A legal fish even in Nsw is only a few years old at best. They're prolific breeders too and without digging through the internet, fairly sure I read a study that egg batches per fish were fairly large in number. 3-4 minimum 65cm would sit right with me. Depletion now isn't as much of an issue as it was with zero limits and rampant commercial netting/trapping.

To put it all into perspective, a 60cm Snapper is roughly the same age as a 115cm Kingfish. A 30cm snapper as old as a 70cm Kingfish. No one kicks up a fuss with 10 pinkies at 30cm each in photos that pop up every day...

Most bag limits are at least double what they need to be....

I agree Douglas most salt water fish you are able to take 10 to 20 of each species, so you could legally take home 100 mixed species or more.

I find this incredible regardless of the scientific data that states it's ok to do so.

Most dedicated fisho's take a feed home, where as others take excess fish just because it's legal to do so.

If you need to freeze your catch because you can't eat it all in a couple of nights you have taken to many IMO.

I don't really see a problem with 5 fish per day, from my experiences the kingfish have been rebounding exponentially, and there are thousands upon thousands of them kicking around.

Saying that, I never usually keep more than 2-4 between the boat, that is plenty for a feed (or a few) and they are definitely best as sushimi, so fresh is best.

Do not agree.

Most bag limits are about right.

There's not many bag limits I disagree with. Only minimum sizes. If you can get 5 kings and aren't going to waste them so be it. For most fishos those stars align only a few times.
