First ever Kingy

Post by Wolly Bugger » Thu Feb 11, 2016 2:45 pm

Well, things didn't start out too well, the first charter I booked, rang and cancelled, the night before we were due to go. A quick ring a round and most of the charters were booked out.

Finally found a vacant spot.

Once there was a 4 way hook up on the opposite side of the boat, two got dropped, the third fed a seal and the fourth took the line against the trim tabs and busted off.

Perhaps 15 mins later I am on, to my first ever kingfish. Not huge, but a keeper, Sadly for the boat that was the last kingfish to be hooked. Other boats around us caught some, but seals were a real menace, stealing live bait as well as hooked kingfish.

This jigging caper is hard work. I am stuffed.

Having a king on then hooking a seal sounds like a nightmare.

Congrats mate!

Great stuff jigging is hard work but when the kingy hits the lure and the upward motion of the rod just stops dead is a great feeling. Not that I would do this but I have seen it done fill a pichard with wasabi feed it to the seal, seal goes away simple.
