Labeo Rohita(Rohu) or Indian Carp
Hello Guys.. If you remember me.. I am supposed to be coming to Melbourne in Jan.. I think I will only make it by mid feb.
Anyways...
A friend , Dad and I had been out fishing last week to a very famous angling spot(140km from Bangalore) owned by the Wildlife association of South India. we spent two nights fishing various channels using plugs for Mahseer (type of fish) and during the day, we tried mainly for all the various species of carp that are there in that croc infested lake!!
Had two very big runs and the third one that I finally manged to land was this beautiful specimen called Rohu in the common tongue.
unfortunately, We didnt have proper scales to weigh it as I did find out later that It could have been an IGFA record if We had the correct kind of weighing scales..the current record for that species stands at 12.8 kg from Thailand.
The fight lasted for about 15 min with a lot of tense moments in between where the fish dove under weeds and then under the platform where we were fishing from and so on...finally landed it with the handle of the aluminum landing net snapping into two...
It weighed around 17 Kgs and that has to be the biggest freshwater fish that I have ever caught..Even though it might never come on to any book as a record, I just want to say that I will never ever forget the fight that this brilliant "Ruby Slab" put on..
Here, We release all fish to fight another day! It was caught using a spring feeder method. Bait was fermented rice and peanut oilcake. Hook bait- floating foam.
Rod- Abugarcia Tornament.
Reel- Shakespere Sigma 6000
Line- Berkeley 15Lb Test

That's a big carp, and I bet it smells just the same as the aussie ones  cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
