RABBITS OF FRESH WATER IN AFRICA AND ELSEWHERE

Post by Paulanderson » Wed Feb 22, 2017 1:05 am

A couple of Red Tilapia - Southern Australia is lucky as in most places the water is too cold for Tilapia. At least they taste better than Carp but do not fight as well.

I have seen Tilapia on a few restaurant menus around the world. I have never tried it myself.

It is terrible they are spreading in Australian waterways. They are super tough fish that can go into saltwater and get to different rivers via the sea. I have eaten them a number of times...they are very nice to eat.

they are staple food in quite a lot of asian countries.
the only good thing about them spreading is that atleast they are edible, unlike carp (which i know some people do eat as well)

Ive had tilapia once at a mates house party. Theyre philippines and had made a sweet and sour dish out of the fish, sadly i ended up only eating the sweet and sour sauce with my rice. Everyone els enjoyed it so it must be just me. Compared to carp, they have less bones but both still stinks of fishy smell.

Interestingly they found a virus last year that is threatening Tilapia stocks! If carp herpes virus is successful, we might take the same route with Tilapia, of course depending on the characteristics of the virus.
