PENALTY FOR STEALING FISH

Post by Paulanderson » Sat Aug 08, 2015 2:16 am

Magistrates here in Zambia are not known for being lenient. A man stole about $150 worth of dried Tilapia and the penalty was 5 years in jail with hard labor. Life in a Zambian jail is unpleasant to say the least. This is nothing unusual with thefts of around $20 to $30 worth - such as for some chickens -attracting up to 3 years. Am sure if in Australia poachers and others were given similar penalties for much more serious fisheries offences there would be a very fast reduction in offences!

Your right Paul, our penalties are far too lenient here, those sort of penalties would slow them down a lot, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

The ancestors of some Australians were sent here for stealing a handkerchief.
