Cape Woolamai 01-Mar-2017
Made another trip to the Island for a couple of days r&r. Did the Woolamai walk on Tuesday - didn't intend to. What started as a short stroll
along the beach at Cleeland Bight turned into a 12km trek. It was my first time hitting the Cape in the evening. I was surprised at the
numbers of wallabies that were out and about. Conditions were great. Amazing sunset. Completely different 'feel' to the area as the sun
goes down.
The next day I met up with Tas for another attempt at an offshore session. Swell was down from last week, but still a bit lumpy (1.5,+)
there was a SE breeze which was up and down a bit during the day. As we headed past Red Rocks a bank of sea-fog moved in for a short
time, before burning off mid-morning.
Headed a short way out from the end of the Cape and drifted around for a few hours. I was fishing using a simple feather bait-jig and
managed quite a few bits - a lot of small flatties, barber perch and a jackass morwong and banded rock-cod double-header. Plenty of
muttonbirds whizzing about, but overall a bit quiet on the fishing-front. Great day to be out on the water though.
Lots of pics (as usual), the majority not fishing-related!
Wooli surf beach on Tuesday evening - looked great for a swim...
Some thumping sets coming in towards the end of the Cape...
The view across to the hills behind San Remo...
Stretching the zoom to its max - Bald Hills wind farm with The Prom in the background (100km away!)
Pyramid Rock in the evening...
Lots of these around - I counted over 50 of them in one spot...
A male, trying to stare me down...
A great spot for some evening browsing...
It was an amazing sunset - the photo really doesn't do it justice...
The wallabies enjoyed it too
Making my way back along the surf beach...
Conditions looked great for some night-fishing, but I was too shagged-out...
Wednesday morning, gentleman's hours...
Heading past Red Rocks under a layer of fog...
Starting to clear already...
Muttonbirds heading out to sea...
Looking back at the Cape from about 1km out...
A couple of the more interesting catches...

You've got those landscapes down pat. Some impressive shots there. What lens are you using?

That was a first for me. It was a reasonable size (about 33cm) so I kept it and ate it that evening - very nice.Trumpeter wrote:Great pics, I've caught a lot of those Jackass Mowies down in Tas.
Cheers,
Mike.
