I've seen a lot of people hold on to undersize pinkies. If you say something they try to convince you that, oh, these are silver trevally. Or, oh, we didn't know. Or, oh, I've never heard of pinkies ... or snapper. It's becoming a boring conversation, and I'm wondering if the best approach is just to snap a photo and call fisheries without initiating a conversation.

Of course, on a pier, it often becomes a race thing. But the same crazy old guy telling you about the yellow peril will then go on to say how, back in the day, they'd take home 70 flathead and then some in a single session. And he probably doesn't see how he's cut from the same cloth as the people who just have to take home every single thing they catch, no matter the size.
