Years ago I knew the Officer for East Gippsland yes they were that thin on the ground.
He knew me by my vehicle Blue/White F100, same as the Marlo bait supply had always confusing, Police would wave me thru many a stop/testing site a wave back and kept going.
He once said you should join knowing all the back roads and tracks to places we'll never get to, or ever hear about.
I thought for what seemed a long time a minute or so.
And when he said "no fishing on the job 24hour call out" and no fishing gear in a fisheries boat.
"Hell No" he only asked once.

Its very poor pay

Its turmed away off the better applicants for sure.

I was asked a few years ago now and thst was one off the reasons i said no.

The others were from memory

Poor roster
Transfer to a crap location.
Working every duck open.
Working every cod open
Working every snapper season
Working during the build up and run off

Not much off a life

In reflection I must say, if I took the long cut thru Maffra due to highway delay/ blockage the Maffra copper was there on the west side of the bridge going in to say in here driver, and I had been driving Semi-trailers for 40 years and have been stopped more times than ever by the Maffra copper than everywhere else. not booked but stopped. :o_0:
