Would love to know where the illegal hauls like this one that don't get caught end up! I'd hate to think that everyday folk are buying squid rings from the local fish and chip shop that are acquired in this way. 75 is an awful lot of squid for any other purpose. Infuriates me seeing this stuff!!!! Good work fisheries and those that spoke up.

I thought they changed the rules here where they can seize equipment used which in this case includes the car. I am sure I remember reading someone had their boat seized from Patto a couple of years back for exceeding the bag limit on Snapper. Can anyone elaborate on this?

Tachnically they could (and should) seize the car if it is determined that it was part of the 'equipment', which in this case it was. They do however apply that at thier own discretion.....and never or rarely do. I wouldn't last a day working as a fisheries officer......I would have dismantled their car into its component parts and left it in a pile in the car park and then thrown the owners into the sea

I agree, I also would not last long as a fisheries officer.......I would of saved the owners and thrown made them watch me throw their car into the water but I like your idea better!!

All jokes aside, they need to get tough on the blatant offenders.

If they had just kept the biggest and let the tiddlers go they wouldn't have sacrificed that much in edible meat. So it wasn't even worth the risk, for the minimal return.

i think some people just get on an obsessive roll and can't help themselves.

How do fisheries go in regards to folk who are bait gathering and using them on that trip out and they have been chopped up. So cant be counted. Similar with other under size baits that have been used.?

How many people do you reckon catch their bag, use some as bait, then go top up their bag again?
