New shellfish reefs is born in the bay

The Andrews Labor Government is restoring shellfish reefs in Port Phillip Bay through a project that aims to improve bay health, juvenile fish habitat and water quality.

Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford announced works had begun on stage two of the project to restore lost shellfish reefs in the Bay off St Kilda and Geelong at the Albert Park Yachting and Angling Club with The Nature Conservancy (TNC).

A good news story, but how the did the scallop dredges not only manage to kill all the bay oysters, but also destroy the hard reef material itself?

Great to hear  lets just hope the small minority of Kn@bull don't see this as an opportunity to pillage these areas if its successful.

Because the 'hard' reef material was just piles of empty shells and a scallop dredge, being a heavy, metal scoop with a net would just plough through them like they weren't there. Half a century of that would wipe them out pretty easily.

Would these be in no take areas to protect the habitat until it's settled enough?
