Yarra River, Warrandyte-Eltham

Post by Daniel_96 » Tue Dec 10, 2013 7:39 pm

Hi Guys, my first post here,
I've actually never properly fished for anything besides flathead and whiting in Port Phillip Bay.
I live very close to Warrandyte and would like to try and catch something from the Yarra. I was wondering what sort of setup I should be using in terms of bait/lures. Also if I am going to be using bait, what sort of rigs I should be using to keep the bait in the right spot and mostly out of snags.

Cheers

If your using bait, use a running sinker rig. Bait wise definately scrubbies
Angling is the name given to fishing by people that can't fish

Scrub worms- running sinker- no weight if possible. Pools above or below rapids.

Hi Daniel -welcome to the site.
I normaly fish the Yarra around Wonga park, and a simple running sink and worms normally does the trick. Switch to corn as bait if you want to target carp specifically. But worms will get you catches of most fish in that area of the Yarra. Either scrubbies or garden worms.
Although the way it is flowing at present it is proving difficult to keep baits from washing away.

Best advice I can give is be willing to walk the bank a bit.
I'v spent too many hours fishing really easily accessible areas with little to no results, probably because the areas are over fished.
Whereas last weekend i went to a spot that was an absolute pain to get to and there was plenty of activity, to bad i was busy chin wagging with mates to be near my rod to strike on the opportunities.
Just for you info we had a few different baits in the water but all the "inquires" where on scrub worms (running sinker rig)
There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the bank like an idiot, I excel in the latter!!!
