Decided I'd again try the Yarra this evening, this time at Yering.
Comfortable temperature, birds are sing, all in all a plesant evening.
Unfortunately the river is still a long way up and flowing fast.
Worms and corn for bait, and zero bites so far

Not a long session this evening but time to call it quits.
Not even a bite, can't even tempt the carp to bite.
Another guy fishing the same area, using worms and sausage, also zero bites.

Oh better luck next time hopefully

I think it is more to do with the flow at present - normally by this time of year the level has dropped and flow slowed - but with all the recent rain it just has not happened.
If we get a few weeks of no rain it should start to pick up again.

Although I spoke with another fisho tonight and we both commented that we have seen a decline of carp over the last 3 years.
A few years back all you had to do was open a can of corn on the bank and they would climb out of the water.......now they are almost becoming elusive. Not sure why but hopefully if their numbers are dropping, some of the other species will pick up.

Interesting!
Hopefully more and more cod and perch etc than carp.

Nice report Chris - if the river is high ive found all the fish move to the slow pools off to the side of the main current. Worms on a running sinker straight to the hook will do well in that situation.

I haven't targeted carp in yarra for years, but i agree they do seem down in numbers. You'd easily see 4-5 a trip either in the shallows or jumping, but I've hardly seen any like that in the last two years
