Tough going on the Yarra at present

Post by ChrisD » Sun Apr 08, 2018 11:44 am

Had three trips along the Yarra over the last couple of weeks - Millgrove, Worri Yallock and Healseville......all for nought.
Have not even managed a bite across the three trips.
It may be that I am just a hack and have lost my touch :( or maybe other factors that I am just not seeing.
Has anyone else been fishing the Yarra of late and how are you finding it?

Chris

Not getting a bite is unusual, though some individual spots can be very fickle. Even though water temperatures are dropping fish like maccas and blackfish should still be biting in the hour up to sunset.

A couple of suggestions:

1. Try the Yarra Glen area (carp, maccas, reddies);
2. Try the tributaries upstream of Warburton (blackfish and trout).

Best Wishes

Thanks Truedogz - got some extra time off over ANZAC day, will have to have another look then.
It has been frustrating as for the last few months I have managed at least one fish landed per trip.....to suddenly go to nothing happening at all over three trips has had me scratching my head

I fished Millgrove for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon and managed to land 4 browns and a small redfin on soft plastics.

Excellent session - well done.....but there is an old joke about the fishing being better yesterday :-D
Mind you I am bait fishing - I have given up on lures and SP's - just got sick of loosing too many to the snags.

Was going to hit it up for the first time since last season close this weekend, but alas other priorities took over the weekend as per normal. Looking at Saturday this weekend (although a bit warm this week) - Sunday could be OK but dirtier with potential Saturday rain (but also more active fishing with possible food washed in from rains?).
