Yarra fishing was good tonight, fisherman was rubbish
Hit Pound Bend tonight - was all enthused to try some hard bodied lures I had.....well that lasted about half a dozen casts and they were all claimed by snags.......I am such a rubbish lure fisherman.
So it was back to good, old, reliable bait - scrub and compost worms.
After about 20 mins something hit one of the rods hard - a couple of careful mins later, and some big head shakes, a cod of about 60cm broke the surface. With only 6lb line I knew I had to take these last couple of metres slow. It saw the bank and ran.....and stupidily I gave it enough line to just reach some reeds.....which it promptly wrapped me round. So here I was 6lb line, a cod of about 60cm, wrapped around some reeds about 7 ft out from the bank.....
Anyone else would have just waded out and grabbed it, however I am scared stiff of any water that I cannot see the bottom of - near drowning as a kid - so all I could do was watch and wait for the inevitable to happen...and sure enough it busted me off half a minute later....grrrrrr.
From there the bites kept coming but only ended up with 4 Mac perch, all about 15 - 20 cm.
2 carp, that to be fair gave a solid account of themselves.
And a single ell
Also got to listen to the Christmas Carols that were on in Warrendyte tonight
All up a good session.....but that lost cod is going to hurt for a while yet......

Really bad luck about the cod - I can imagine just how you felt! On the positive side good that there were a few Maccas around.

Bad luck on the cod mate but at least he is still in there for next time.

Dont worry about loosing lures mate, thats part of the deal. try some floating lures so next time as soon as you hit the snags let some line out and hopefull the lure will unsnag itself, also a lure retriever works well and is a handy addition.
bugger bout the cod though, if you touched the leader then you can convince yourself that it was a capture, but sucks if you wanted to eat it..

Chris have you tried switching the treble hooks for singles with lures, I fish the yarra from a kayak and have found singles hooks helped keep the lures in my possession most of the time.
Great session with the entertainment thrown in!
