Went to sugarloaf this Tuesday and saw something I've never seen there before: a number of really big fish (easily 40cm+) scattered in the shallows appear to be spawning (?)
They wouldn't bite anything I threw at them and I couldn't take any clear photos. Couldn't tell what fish they are other than they look a lot like barra!
Anybody else saw these guys at sugarloaf lately?

Definitely weren't yellow bellies. I thought they were big roaches initially.
Now I think they could be carps.

Likely to be carp. They spawn in the shallows laying sticky eggs when water temperatures get to around 20 degrees C. I saw some spawning in Eildon in shallows the other day.

That sounds like what I was witnessing! It was a really hot day and the water level was unusually high.Truedogz wrote:Likely to be carp. They spawn in the shallows laying sticky eggs when water temperatures get to around 20 degrees C. I saw some spawning in Eildon in shallows the other day.

Someone should take these spawning monster carps out of the water
