Nah, not popular here at all - I got introduced to them spinning for panfish in the US. I only use them to spin for trout - and it suits that type of fishing really well, wouldn't recommend them for any other type of fishing.brybry wrote:Underspin reel. Easy is the word for them. They are super easy to tune in accuracy of casting, when contending with tight spaces and obstacles it's easy to get really creative in flicking off a cast and of course, the making 100's of casts is easy & pretty efficient.
Downsides would shorter shelf life being harder to service/clean (saltwater use ruins them quickly - so no good for estuary spinning), they cast well but ultimately don't cast as far as your standard spinning reel (but negated by most trout spinning doesn't require every possible cm in your cast) and they don't seem to like braid.
