Re: The legendary Yarra yella
It's mainly the color of the fins n lack of white in the eye that's making me say yellowbelly.. but the size of its mouth makes me think Macca..

Re: The legendary Yarra yella
I've caught Redfin in the Yarra at Ivanhoe on poppers, so I'd presume their all through the system.

Re: The legendary Yarra yella
If I had to call it, I'd call it as a yella. Pretty crazy catch - thanks for sharing regardless if its only a speculated yarra yella

Re: The legendary Yarra yella
Does anyone remember the seal that was playing with a yella looking fish in the Yarra?

Re: The legendary Yarra yella
I'm gonna vote for yella too. I got hit by something that size last year on a spinnerbait. It definitely wasn't a cod as I caught the flash as it hit almost at my feet. Thought it was a large reddie at the time

Re: The legendary Yarra yella
That looks like a yellowbelly to me.
I caught one and saw another one being caught at Griffiths Park In November last year.
They look to be escaped fish from a dam.

Re: The legendary Yarra yella
100% yellowbelly. And a good one too for the Yarra! The yellas I've pulled out of the Yarra have all been around the 20cm mark.
This is a small yella I caught from the Yarra about a year ago, around Griffiths Park.
And here's a Macca caught by my mate last week from the Yarra just a bit upstream from Sweeny's.
I feel that there's a pretty clear difference, that should be fairly obvious.
But yes, the Yellas are certainly present in the Yarra, and have been for years. I've even seen photos of ~30cm silver perch caught from the Yarra about two years ago. Most yellas I've seen caught are around the size of mine, but you do hear of some larger ones caught.
Does anyone remember a news article about a Seal eating a fish in the Yarra from a few years ago? That looked like a Yella to me, and a big one at that!
Cheers, Mark.
