Yarra Valley Black fish

Post by ChrisD » Tue Mar 01, 2016 10:52 am

Thinking of chasing up some Blackfish in the Yarra Valley tonight - has anyone tried the Woori Yallock Creek and had reasonable results? I have only ever managed to get a 15 cm one from the Yarra at Woori Yallock - hoping to upsize that. Not asking for any spots - but any tips would be great.

It seems like a suitable creek for them, I've never bait fished there but I have caught a nice one on a plastic in one of the deeper pools.

Years ago it was a great place for Blacky's but I'm not sure about now, also around where the creek crosses the road behind the Yellingbo store, but I haven't been there for years either, well worth a look around, cheers davo

Thanks guys - have had to postpone tonight's trip, but will hopefully head out tomorrow night instead.
Have to find a few of those large blackfish to cross off the list :)

Well got up to Woori Yallock tonight and fished the Creek around the car park off the Warburton Hwy.
decide to try using unweighted worms and let the creek take them where the flow went. Everything was quite for the first 20 mins or so then the water boiled with little fish trying to out run a couple of good sized Redfin....OK time to put a couple of spinners on......except for the fact that some idiot took his remaining spinners out of the tackle bag a couple of weeks back and didn't put them back in....D'oh.
So after watching the Redfin for a while it was time to move down the creek a bit. Bites nearly straight away and after a few misses finally hooked up a 50 odd cm eel. Not the target but it was a catch.
Another couple of moves and a few more missed bites and it become too dark to keep fishing.
So first run at Blackfish there was a miss - but I did catch something, and next time I will have some spinners on me - but i will also be back to try for Blackfish in the near future.
