Yarra this morning

Post by ChrisD » Sun Sep 20, 2015 12:19 pm

Spent a couple of hours on the Yarra this morning looking for some Redfin.
River is still high and flowing fast so keeping baits amongst the targeted snags was difficult, but the morning was too good to pass up so I kept trying.
Plenty of bites, but in the end the only hook up was a little Cod......never thought I would see the day I considered a cod "by catch" but it was not what I was looking for so by definition it was "by catch". It was photographed quickly and returned to the water to grow bigger.
But end result saw no redfin caught......grrrrrr they keep eluding me on the Yarra.....
But a good morning spent on the river all the same.

I think you'll struggle with reddies in that stretch, never seen or heard of any through there. Mainly small bait stealing maccas, cod, carp and the odd yella.

The reddies seem to be further up around Yarra Glen and above from what I've seen.

A mates Yarra yella from a couple of years ago, 2 of us had peppered the area with spinner baits for a while for nothing while he screwed around then throws out a soft plastic and land a nice yella first cast.

Bigwatkins knows where to find Browns in the plenty but it's only accessible through private property.

Guess I will have to scope out google earth for accessible areas and try them when I get a chance. Thanks for the heads up

No worries mate, if you find some good access I've seen some good size reddies pulled out up that way.

I caught redfin near the bridge down from Homestead rd earlier in the year. Cheese was the bait.
