Trout, Murray and Trout cod fishery in the Yarra

Post by widgeon58 » Wed Feb 11, 2015 5:49 pm

Mod edit. separated from another thread.

...................................................................................................................................................................
Macca's are in the Yarra where you are fishing and are caught in the Plenty and Diamond Creek up stream from where they junction the Yarra how far up I ' don't know, but reading here on this forum and some others it appear that they are in definitely in some of the tributaries of the Yarra above Templestowe.

Left field ? any support to lobby VRfish and the DPEI for a Trout Cod feasibility study above Warrandyte as it appears that Murray cod do manage to survive and bred in the Eltham -Templestowe area even though its not their natural breeding range.

? is posed as just to get some feed back and also to see if between Trout, Murray Cod and Trout Cod we can get a local river system that encourages people to fish and and care about the river and it's environment ( maybe I should now take my rose coloured glasses off). Pm's welcome from both sides

Admin feel free to take the second half of this post and place it some where else if you think it's appropriate , it just sort of flowed ( no pun intended) given that the Yarra and its tributaries are so important to the majority of the people who post here.

Depi refuse to stock even murray cod into the Yarra because it's outside their natural range, don't see them changing their stance for trout cod to be honest and that's why so many people are protective of the river.

Which makes complete sense considering the whole of Australia is outside the natural range of trout...

Maccas inhabit a fair stretch well up past Yarra Glen.

You make a great point Tyler. Trout are a completely introduced species and they will stock them almost anywhere :dontknow
