First Goldfish on the Yarra
Well some fishing trips are just about the "firsts"
Had my first trip to the Yarra for the season on Friday night, didn't expect much but it was nice to get out again.
After about an hour of nothing I had a small hit, fish came in without much of a fight - when I landed it I looked down and first thought was a small carp, about 10 inches long. But on closer inspection i realised it was actually a goldfish.
Well never had one of those before - don't get a photo, camera batteries were dead, but hey guess it is another species i can cross off the list
Other then that nothing else was biting, but it was still nice to be back on the river as the sun set, not a bad way to finish the working week.

I've heard a rumour that 'there are no crucian carp in Australia'muzza43 wrote:Probably a crucian carp if it had no whiskers. Cheers muzza43.
Winners forget they're in a race. They just love to run.

Re: First Goldfish on the Yarra
Just checked google images - yeap looks like it was a crucian carp, quite goldfish looking.....oh well can cross crucian carp off the list and put "goldfish to be caught" back on Not that I will be going out of my way to cross that one off.

I've tried serveral times to catch crusion carp in deep creek off Sunbury Rd at Bulla but never got a touch! I fished there between 7-9am and used bread/dough on small hook. Any idea what can be wrong? spot? timing? bait?gecko61 wrote:ive caught heaps of crusian carp and large tench in the deep creek at bulla

Btw congratulations Chris, glad you're catching something!
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad
