Re: new to the forums and to fishing
Welcome aboard....nothing wrong with the Kmart Sportfisher range, they maybe cheap but they do the job. There are a few of us here using them. I paid $20 ea for the 6ft6 rod and reel combos and have been using them for a couple of years.
Good luck and look forward to seeing your progress.

Re: new to the forums and to fishing
Welcome mate!
If you flick through the freshwater section a couple of the younger guys were smashing carp on that lake a few months ago.
Just landed a couple of 4ft sharks on a sportsfishing 5500 baitrunner and my uncles homemade surf rod I inherited at Tuross Heads. I bought it because i didn't want to invest a lot of money before i'd had a chance to research baitrunner reels and I was on the road at the time, it has performed beautifully for me with 10kg sportfisher mono. $30 bucks or so I think.
