Mackerel @ Mornington Pier
Hi All,
Over the last week I have been at Morington Pier after sun set, on the small jetty behind the fish and chip shop. On both occasions, there has been a heap of Mackerel swimming around - and for the life of me I cant seem to catch any.
I got lucky while using some pippy and floating it on the surface but that's it. I have tried, a silver lure, pilchard, white bait and a bait-jig. The fish did everything to avoid it.
Any suggestions would be great!

Try throwing some burley out to get them into a feeding frenzy then put small strips of chicken fillet on small size 6 hook suspended under a float. I used to catch heaps of them this way while going for gars. Goodluck

What kenie said. Small hook under a float like you would use for garfish. Most baits will work. The key is the float. Set the depth to just below where you can see your bait and cast out a little. Go shallower as it gets darker

A green mister twister, is what we used to use yrs ago, was the only colour that would work.
Re: Mackerel @ Mornington Pier
Same technique as above but with a thin inch long piece of squid and you see a few caught
