NT advice please

Post by Broomstick » Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:23 am

Hi guys,

In October I'm doing a road trip up to the NT then back down the east coast. I'll be gone a bit under a month in total. The brief itinerary is: Melbourne => Port Augusta => Uluru => Katherine => Kakadu => Mt Isa => Ayr => Cape Tribulation => Cooktown => Townsville => home (via the east coast). I've been all along the east coast and up to Cape Tribulation and Cooktown before, so that part of the trip is sweet. I'm after advice on the Northern Territory (particularly Kakadu). I've done lots of research, but some first hand experience never went astray. Has anyone done a similar trip or spent some time in Kakadu? Any must-see places or spots to flick a lure? I'll be camping the entire time and am very keen to get away from the crowds, so any quiet camping spots would be much appreciated. I'll have a 4WD and am keen to get off the beaten track.

Anyway, just thought I'd put the feelers out there.

Cheers,

Pat

I did something similar Pat

- Land based is dangerous , the crocs make things tricky.
-I used the ultralight and little soft plastics for the Saratoga and it worked wonders
-The Barra were just not on the bite when I was fishing and I focused on the Toga. was awesome fun
There is always more to learn , fish to catch , places to see and friends to make.

+1 on kings canyon. If you are going to The rock don't miss kings canyon. Kakadu.
Hopefully the tides are big enough but make sure you go to cahills crossing for the high tide and watch the crocs line up. Quite impressive plus not bad Barra fishing.
Hire a boat and spend a day fishing corroboree billabong. Great bird life etc to see and plenty of Saratoga plus Barra.
Plenty more up that way but I could be typing all night.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
