Coral Bay WA

Post by Westfish » Mon Aug 03, 2015 9:09 am

Located about 140km south of Exmouth on WA's magnificent Ningaloo Reef is a fishing Paradise called Coral Bay.
Headed up with mate from Perth with 3 boats in tow.
Only got out the 3 days of the week we were there as the weather was a bit average but as you can see when we did get out the fishing was pretty good.

Nice work. Was up there recently and i'm still not sure what tastes better Goldband, Reds or Pearl Perch. How ridiculously spoilt for choice are they in WA; makes it pretty hard to get inspired coming back to Melbourne fishing.
Cheers

I was in the 6.2 Vagabond pictured first in the pic.
I've done a few trips up there now and your right Deathray, I'm finding the move from Perth very difficult fishing wise.
For me Pearl then Goldban then Reds.
Cobia went a little over 13kgs and the big red went 9kg's
All fillets were divided up between the 3 boats and the end of each day.
Ended up with about 16kg to keep me going for a while.

I remember having a family trip to coral bay 15 years ago when my family lived over in wa. Went on a fishing charter and caught heaps of big trevally and snapper and some wrasse I think. I also saw some big snapper in shallow water while I was snorkelling. Caught a big long Tom off the beach as well. Had to be careful getting the hook out of that mouth!

Cheers gents.
Cobia are thick that time of the year as the whales are moving through. Had a few come within 10m of the boat for a look.
About 20 odd cobia were released to cause more tangles and gear failures next year.
Big Trevally are avoided where possible to save on chiropractor bills.
Some pics from last year of what else is possible.
Bucket list location for sure.
