There was a wall below us otherwise I probably wouldn't have jumped in and certainly wouldn't have spent so long in the water

Done a few short stints at work in one of areas you were in and remember hearing of locals catching big Barra at the power station hot water outlet. An old local warned us about crocs and bull sharks and box jellyfish when we were fishing the Calliope river near the bridge at Calliope itself. Strangely enough there were quite a few Nomads swimming at the RV stop.
