Mild weather brings the trout on...

Post by meppstas » Wed Sep 05, 2018 11:09 pm

Finally we had a bit of mild weather today (12 degrees) so I hit a small tannin stream to see if it would give up a few trout. The water temp was sitting on 5 degrees and the water level was just the right height for wading. It's a tight little stream & one I've fished earlier in the season and it's given up a few fish each trip.. Today I used a Mepps #0 Aglia tiger fluoro spinner and it did the job really well. Caught and released 10 small to medium wild brown trout on it with losing a fish. 10/10 doesn't get any better than that.. hopefully the larger rivers I like to fish will soon drop to a safe wading level and get a little warmer. Then I'll hopefully get into a few larger browns.. I still love the challenge of stalking wild brown trout in these tight little tannin waters though, not only that it's just so peaceful being in them too.. Life is good that's for sure.. The little sharpening stone is a must when lure fishing the rivers, I touch up the trebles after every third trout caught..

cheers
Adrian

Great report and pics as always mate.
I like the one where you are sitting on that large log taking it all in. I’d be doing the same fishing in such a beautiful place.
10/10. Gotta be happy with that!
Cheers

Nice work Adrian. I'll be starting my trout adventures as of next week.. If the Eucumbene river water levels are good i'll be heading there, and if not, I'll be spending a few days around eildon and the goulburn.

Cheers, Anth
