After six years the trout are back...

Post by meppstas » Sat Apr 15, 2017 3:22 pm

Went back to a small stream/creek in the upper reaches of Gunns Plain that I haven't fished in over six years mainly because the trout went who knows where and that I forgot all about this little stream/creek. It's one i stumbled on when checking out small streams/creeks in he area by travelling on some bush tracks. It covered by some heavy tea tree foliage and the fishing is tight and accuracy is a must. But when you get hold of a trout it's always a decent size fish and beautifully coloured. This trip I used the little gold #00 Aglia and caught & released 9 browns from a dozen hook ups in tannin water that was like black coffee.. The 75 km drive from Sheffield was well worth it that's for sure. Most pf the trout were over 500 grams with the best one going 630 grams..

I'll let the photos tell the story.. :-D

cheers
Adrian

Thanks guys.. Mick the trout get that dark golden colour from being in the tannin water, some rivers down here are that colour all year round.
It's caused by leaves, bark etc that's in the river.. has a nice taste to it as well..

cheers

Don't know why but tannin stained water always looks mysterious.

It also begs the question; one lump or two?
