Working Sydney Washes Thursday 23rd June

Post by Downrigger » Fri Jun 24, 2016 9:30 am

Out yesterday morning with the plan being jigging The Peak through the 10:15AM high tide then bail, as the wind and chop built up late morning. Weather was good, water temp and colour okay, and plenty of fish on the bumps. Only problem, the fish weren’t kings. Marks too evenly distributed for predators to be about:

We kept on jigging but the hook-ups weren’t the ones we wanted:

And we didn’t see anyone else catch anything either. When I got back and posted up a video David C sent a PM:

Thanks for the report. Had a friend of a friend who was also out today at the peak and 12 for donuts

Assessment confirmed. I hadn’t expected no kingies around but did have a fallback, in case a strong westerly wrecked our plans. Back in under the cliffs and cutting up pilchards which were then lobbed into the washes, with a tennis ball thrower:

After they worked their magic we rigged IQF pilchards on light 3 kilo outfits and cast into the white water. No tailor boated but plenty of pike and some extended battles with salmon too:

That saved the day and delivered some nice mako baits for our next Browns run. Back out again next week and will post up a report if anything interesting happens, Andy

Now mate are you sure? Because Portland and Port Fairy seem to be way hotter gamefish and deep dropping prospects than windy rainy Sydney, for the last month or so. It's like Deadliest Catch up here, most days.
