Another good spot up that way is the Merrica River in Nadgee, -37.296032, 149.950659. It's roughly a 5k hike in, with absolutely no facilities, but the fishing is the best of everything. The camping is perfect. You can set up in clear areas in the bush, or (as I prefer) on the beach.

The river itself hold Bass in the fresh, Mulloway, Bream, Trevally (huge!), Flattys (huge!) and most other estuary fish. Off the beach and rocks are all the usual suspects as well as shark and crays.

Heaps of wildlife too; Dingoes, Scrub turkeys, Lyrebirds, Bandicoots, etc...

Yeah we looked at doing that one too :P
It's day trippable if you go fairly light.

The Nadgee coastal walk looks incredible.

Yeah, it's an easy day-trip, but unfortunately it doesn't give you enough time to see and fish the area to its full potential. I stayed there for ten days and still didn't get to do everything I wanted.

I once did a seven day trip down there in my tinny (from Wonboyn), finished up at Nadgee Lake. The coastline is spectacular from the water, with little estuaries to pull into for camping. The fishing along that coast, estuary and beach, is amazing to say the least...and the crays!!!

There's plenty of evidence of old aboriginal camps along that coast; middens, huge caves and crags that have remnants of fires with cooked bird bones, shells and other animal bones. They sure had the good life, and prime real estate back then.

Killer report DK! I'm heading up that way soon to do a bit of fieldwork, I might have to stay a few extra days and have a flick.
