Hi all

Family is going on a holiday to NZ at the end of this year, and there is a bunch of fly fishing opportunities around where we are staying, so I wanted to give it ago along with my usual wild trout techniques. I was gifted this box of flies a long time ago and I haven't used any of them yet, so I was seeking a little bit of help. Are these flies designed to float on the surface or sub-surface? Do I give them action or let them just drift in the current, and if I do give them action, what action would that be? I'm pretty sure the two on the far right are wooly buggers, but thats about as much as I know. Also bringing spinners and a few SP's in case I cant get my head around the flies.

Cheers

Hey, yes those are woolly buggers. They are all wet flies.
Cast out as far as your can wait few seconds to sink then retrieve. Can be strip and pause, can be slow constant retrieve.
If you're going in Nov Dec, have some elk hair caddis dry fly.
During the day, I like nymph-ing in rivers. Get some brown pheasant tail nymph and a floating indicator. Best is to ask a fly fishing shop.
