Monday night gummies 10/3/14
Monday night gummies 10/3/14
Finally found a little pocket of good weather over the long weekend and headed out with a mate to chase some gummys.
Launched at tooradin around 6pm and made our way down the channel stopping a few times to chase some bait. On the 3rd drop we finally found some yaks picking up 8 with one of them a horse at 39cm.
Flood tide was around 9:30pm so we set up an hour before just outside of the channel entrance. Conditions were fantastic with hardly a breath of wind and light ripple on the water.
We sat there for around 2 hours and only got a couple of banjos. So we decided to make a move and headed over to French island on the edge of a nice looking drop off with an upcoming low tide at 3am.
we anchored up in around 10 meters of water and put our baits out
2 with fresh yak, one with eel and the other with squid. After around 20 minutes we had our first gummy but it was a couple of centimeters under so back she went. Over the next 2 hours we caught a few banjos, a port Jackson and an eagle ray but mixed in with those was 2 gummys at 98cm and 95cm overall length. They both took the fresh yak with the eel and squid not getting a touch all night.
My mate caught his first too so I was sitting there praying to the gummy gods for one of my own so it was great to get one bigger than his haha
We finished up and headed in around 5 a little tired but very happy with a couple of gummys onboard !
Cheers Adsy .

Nice catch dude, my mouth is watering at those flake fillets !
I would have thought a big red would have been on the cards, are they not in that area this time of year ?
still ... gummy tastes better in my opinion..

Thanks guys, no reds around but I haven't heard of any reds around for a while in WP. Especially up the top end. Still some pinkies around though. I'm chomping at the bit for dinner tonight! It was my daughters 6th birthday yesterday and although she loves fresh fish all she wanted was McDonald's for her birthday......spewing haha

Yeah I bleed them from the gills under bowl. I find they bleed the same and apart from them looking better in a photo ( iv seen some barnies on here about that before) when you fillet them you can skin them from the top of the head back so you maximize the fillet.
