November Snapper help

Post by STriplett1997 » Sat Nov 04, 2017 4:22 pm

G'day all,

This is my first Snapper season i've had the opportunity to fish as some of you may know from pervious posts . I've been fishing in shallower water mostly around the 6-12m mark at the top end of the port from Joes to the fingers of Boulton Channel, Caught 2 Snapper so far and lost one right at the boat the other night which shattered me a bit... How does the fishing for them change from early season to november reds, what depths should i be heading to now and as the water temp rises? im a bit behind the 8ball right now hunting blind as i need to upgrade my sounder, it's an old Garmin Fishfinder100, i have no idea what the snapper marks look like on it, its not in colour and i had to turn fish symbols off but still cannot figure it out, only doing ok with sounding up structure and bottom may as well upgrade it as soon as i can $$$$ anyway..

Cheers to anyone who helps me out in advance! Im heading out tomorrow morning and majority of next week starting wednesday, should be firing up soon i hope :water: :water:

Atm from reports most fish coming from 6 to 10mt of water.
Depending where you are depends if fish will be from 6 to 18mt.
Of mornington fish move out out to 18 mt mark as it warms up.
But there is no guage to say how fast this happenz.
Water temp at surface could be 15.6 but 18 mt down could be cooler so no guantee fish are there.

I'm a WP man, What i've read and had talks with ppl about is that early season it starts with shallow water where its warmer, and as the water temp heats up and there metabolism speeds up they begin feeding in deeper waters, im just unsure of when i should be making a move to deep water, not that familiar with much of this and its mostly all new to me, basically what i've been doing because the sounder is dodo (came with the boat i bought), is sounding up good ground in likely spots for specific tides and lightly burleying, with some fresh flesh baits and pillies, had some success so far :)

I dont think there.is a exact guide for when themp heats up as to far far they move into deaper water.
Eg 16 degrees 12 mt water of water,
17 degrees 15mt water etc

People just.normally sound around till they find them and try there

Early September I caught a 70cm red in 18m of water off Carrum so I kinda just go out and see what's happening, move if you're not getting any action.
Cheers,
Ham
