A Fish A Minute At Tooradin

Post by Whiskers » Sun Jul 17, 2016 7:46 pm

I fished Sawtells Inlet at Tooradin on Friday for very little. Two tiny trevally was all that saved me from a doughnut.

However, I watched a heron wading at the very edge of the mangroves. He was catching fish at the rate of about one a minute. He never missed one! Amazing to watch.

I couldn't tell what they were but they were just big enough for me to see that they were small fish.

At a guess they could well have been small mullet but by the time he'd finished he was full to bursting and a bit sluggish getting airborne!
:-D

one thing i've learnt about fishing is to always keep an eye on the birds. they know better than me where the baitfish are, and are a good indicator of possible bigger fish

Might pay to tie that Heron to your line next time, ;-) cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

A couple of photos of where I was fishing.

The far bank is lined by mangroves. The heron was working right on the margins of the mangroves.
